Vote for Animals PDX is building a voter-driven movement to elect Sharon Meieran as Multnomah County Chair.
As Chair, Meieran will take decisive action to transform Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) into a model of accountability, compassion, transparency, and humane care.
She is the only candidate committed to appointing an experienced, compassionate Director—a proven turnaround specialist—who can rebuild Animal Services into a high-performing, life-saving agency.
Under Meieran's leadership, MCAS will implement the essential programs and expertise needed to serve animals and the community, including:
A qualified Medical Director to oversee all aspects of animal health
Dedicated behavioral expertise to rehabilitate and support animals
Comprehensive enrichment and training programs
Proactive adoption initiatives that move animals into loving homes
High-volume, low-cost spay and neuter services to reduce shelter intake
Pet retention programs that help keep families and pets together
Strong community outreach and public engagement
A supported and empowered volunteer and staff workforce
Responsible stewardship of donated funds
Full transparency and accountability to the public
MCAS can become an agency that reflects the community's values—one that protects animal welfare, saves lives, and earns the public's trust. Sharon Meieran has the vision, experience, and commitment to make that transformation happen.
About Us
We are two Portland small business owners who have advocated for homeless animals since 2008, when we began tracking the thousands of animal deaths at Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS). Despite a 2008 task force convened to address widespread public concern, promised reforms never materialized.
For more than eighteen years we have studied MCAS operations, met with officials, researched successful shelter models, testified before the Commission and fought for change—yet County leaders have repeatedly chosen inaction. As a result, MCAS is now in a state of collapse. Our campaign is dedicated to Fig & Petunia, two bonded dogs, surrendered by their elderly owner, only to die at the hands of cruel, callous Multnomah County bureaucrats. We will never give up fighting for the total transformation of MCAS and being a voice for the animals whose lives depend upon it.
